Default [ThePlanet] The Planet is on fire

Quote:
The Planet Datacenter has caught fire today, taking thousands of websites down.

The phone number on The Planet’s website leads to an auto recording stating that a transformer caught fire. The fire department has told them to shut down all power, including all generators and backup power. The Planet says no networking gear was harmed, so it sounds like all the servers should be fine unless the smoke got to them.

There is no ETA on when the entire datacenter, which is located in Houston, Texas, will be back up.

I am also wondering if this is the reason the entire Gawker Media network is down, including sites such as Kotaku, Gizmodo, Lifehacker, and the rest of its very popular blogs, which receive millions of hits a day.
Sources: myself, the advertising company which advertises on my website, The Planet's phone recording

22,000 websites down.. ouch

Quote:
UPDATE: The Planet has confirmed that no servers were damaged. The cause of the fire appears to be an explosion that was caused by a short in some electrical equipment. The explosion took out 3 walls in the building. The Planet says some servers will be back up by tomorrow afternoon.
Update again: Entrecard is down because of the fire. In case you don't know, entrecard is a huge networking website for exchanging ads with other sites.

No, if you put 2 fans on one molex it would make them run at 6v.
For example, i've got a Icute case with 4 12v fans, each with a molex and female molex connector. If i connect each fan to the following and then to one molex of the psu they will run at 12/4=3v each.

gizmodo still works (that DIY multitouch is cool). Lifehacker still works but is really slow, but that is a massive outtage.

I see it is working now, it wasn't before. It was down and back up and back down for about an hour, as were all the gawker sites. The site home pages went back up, but all the posts were inaccessible. Working for me now, but its slow.

Do data centers have anti-fire sprinklers? I'd think that water + servers = not good.
