No, but they're leaving the possibility open for vendors to create a 4850X2 and that would use GDDR3. They aren't making a reference board for it, though. A 4850X2 would make sense because if the 4870X2 can actually compete with the GTX280, they do kind of need a product in between the 4870 and the X2 price-wise.

Would be nice if this is true. If ATI can come out with a better performaing card for less $$, I forsee drastic price drops from Nvidia and, either way you go, you'll get a great card for the $$. I am planning on waiting for a few months after release to see what becomes of all this.
