Default [EP] More Bloomfield Specifications

Source

Quote:

We know that there will be three type of Nehalem available for end user, till now we can not get any hard detail on Havendale and Lynnfield, but some more specifications of Bloomfield have been obtained.

The difference of the three CPU is their clock speed which we have mentioned before. Beside that the QuickPath speed is different and memory speed. We believe that the final date, price and the commercial name will be announce later.

Interesting, what exactly is Memory Speed Support? A recommendation or a minimum requirement (hope it's not the maximum it can support)?

That's a pretty high TDP.

Same as now, when the northbridge is clocked to support 1066/1333/1600MHz memory. You can overclock it. It's just stock clocks, utterly irrelevant to anyone here I hope

I hope that the 3.2 version is under ~600ish. Although I doubt it. We'll have to see whether the multipliers are going to be the limiting factor on these chips- It would certainly be nice to see another chip as good as the Q6600! The 45 nm quads put me off with prohibitively high prices on the high end chips and either insufficient multipliers (Q9450) or tiny caches (Q9300) on the relatively affordable ones.

Nehalem looks to be INCREDIBLE as far as I can tell, however I might have to wait until Sandy Bridge. I'll be out of school by then, and will be able to afford such things.

Also, I know that the bloomfield chips will be larger and slightly oblong, but does anybody know if current coolers will fit them (with new brackets of course)? I'm pretty sure a Tuniq could be made to fit (the base is slightly oblong and quite large anyway,) but I wonder if I'd be able to use my new Fuzion.

The IHS will be slightly larger, but it shouldn't matter, the chip itself still isn't that big. For reference, Noctua has already made a new LGA1366 adapter that is backwards compatible with many older coolers, so it shouldn't be a problem.

The 3.2GHz version is the 'Extreme Edition' and I'd bet it'll be around $999 or thereabouts.

I'm sure the "Extreme Edition" will be at least 1k. I'm just dreaming
Intel has a monopoly on high end chips right now; they can charge whatever they want. I hope that AMD surpises me, however I think that they'll be lucky to match the current 45nm C2D chips. They have some incredible deals right now (5000+ BE for ~$75 comes to mind, and their mATX board overclock much better than intl ones) but honestly, even an E7200 can give the phenoms a run for their money.

This poor starving college student wishes that Intel wouldn't charge $600 for just unlocking the multi. AMD doesn't...

Maybe I should just sell my sig rig now and wait for the bloomfield chips- thankfully DDR3 prices are starting to get at least semi-reasonable. I think I'll put it on craigslist for $2k just to see if somebody buys it (that's like 800 less than a builder would charge, although certainly a high price)- that would probably get me into bloomfield and perhaps a pair of 4870x2 cards!

Good eye, 130 watts for a 2.66 Ghz. part. on 45nm at that! That's suprisingly hot especially considering how cool Penryn chips run.

With the IMC it would be, you have to figure for the longest time there was all that added heat on the NB, that energy is now part of the IMC so there is going to be a pretty substantial increase in the TDP if they calculate it the same way.
