I don't think it really ruins the market. They are pretty equal players (a few FPS here and there, doesn't seem much like a difference if you ask me). The real advantage is that the 4850 in crossfire is a monster, and you don't have to have an Nvidia chipset to do it!

Is crossfire scaling still better than sli? Where can I see these scaling benchmarks?

I think you will end up seeing a little more gains outa newer drivers with 4850 then with 9800 Nvidia is coming out with, and crossfire is a big plus..

The scaling really depends on the cards. You can't say generally Crossfire is better than SLI as some Crossfire combos won't scale as well others, same with SLI. 4850's seem to scale really well, and some of the results from in game and benchmarking shows this combo to be very, very powerful.

The problem is the disgusting amount of heat the 4850's are putting out; doesn't allow for much overclocking.

Where can I see some OC results? I have been looking for these, but have not seen anything worth while. Do you have a review of either of these cards overclocked? I think that could be the difference.

Maybe upgrade from the stock single slot cooler, and then test that argument? As for the benchmarks, the 4850 seems to come almost neck and neck with the GTX+ at higher resolutions. Now that AA implementation is better, most reviews show the 4850 rise above the GTX with AA and AF enabled.
