This is one review that looks severely tainted. Other more reputable reviews have otherwise to say.

My whole point was, until the 9800GTX+ actually launches and gets benchmarked by respectable hardware sites that chart is full of :turd:

Yes, however, if the 4850 is really a bandwidth starved 4870, then overclocking the memory should bring about quite nice performance boost. From what I can see so far of the 4850's that have been overclocked, most of them are easily able to max out CCC Overdrive on the core and memory.

Where as the 9800GTX+ is essentially an overclocked 9800GTX, not too sure on how much OCing headroom it will have.

I understood it was so much more though. It's also a 55nm die shrink, so doesn't that bring much more potential to overclock? (Smaller die = less heat= more overclock)

Possibly, but a die shrink does not instantly equal more overclocking headroom. And initially, the 9800GTX+ will still be 65nm. It all depends on what speed the silicon is binned at.

Oh wow it's still at 65nm? This is all messing with my head...I don't want to like the ATI because I want to try something new, but right now Nvidia isn't making buying their cards very compelling. I just bought an 8800gts yesterday for >$200... I feel like a tool! I'm refunding it as soon as it gets here.

ummm, 003, can you please post proof that the GTX+ is at 65nm? all the info i've read indicates it's a 55nm part

I've just read this thread and had to sign up to in essence defend legit reviews.

To all the people crying fake, grow up. Are you actually expecting every review site to have exactly the same results for the cards?

There are so many factors that can influence the scores, and not just the hardware (which I'm going to point out is different for every site), game settings, drivers and even windows updates will have an effect on the final score.

I think the bulk of the discrepancies comes from the driver differentiations between the sites. If you notice LR are the only ones to be using Catalyst 8.6 (and the 9800GTX+ is using a newer forceware version).

It's all in the original reviews if you take the time to actually read them (rather than just looking at graphs).

Given the short notice timescale that these reviewers were put under I think it's unreasonable to think that all the cards should have been retested with the latest driver versions, so if you want to moan about inconsistent driver use, you try benchmarking all those cards and writing a review in time for the just-moved-forward-a-week-launch day.

What reason do you all have for distrusting LR in the first place anyway? Have they been letting you down on reviews in the past?

Dan

Overclocking on this card is insane! quote from guru3d
We got the core to 860 MHz, the Shaders to 2133 MHZ and the memory over 2490 MHz. Which really is just a grand overclock. If this is true...
