Default [TT] AMD strikes again: Radeon 4870 Reviews (Updating list)

Quote:
We saw the beginning of AMD's next-gen HD 4800 Series graphics cards last week with the launch of the 4850. As many of you would have seen, we tested it quite heavily in a multitude of setups to determine where it sits on the market at its respective price point. To reflect quickly back on our findings, it's an absolute corker of a card and should already have NVIDIA trembling a bit.

Now we shift focus onto the model we've all been dying to get our hands on. Sitting higher up the chain, the 4870 has arrived today. If the 4850 is anything to go by, this card is going to put immense pressure on NVIDIA to, at the very least, lower pricing on its new models; albeit it does have the 9800GTX+ up its sleeve.

In any case, now that the NDA is lifted you can be your own judge and look at all the coverage floating about around the web (which we'll continue to update in here over the next 12 hrs or so) :-

We'll have our first of several articles go online very soon; these including a trip to IBP once again to give them plenty of freedom in a 4GHz powerhouse as well as pairing up the cards for some Crossfire and CrossfireX runs, too. So stick around folks, it's going to be another VGA-happy day.

Crossfire performance is amazing, of course the the crossfire setup is lagging behind in the heavily Nvidia optimized games.

Hopefully ATI will get some more of their own games together so drivers won't be such a big chour for them, till then, their indiviual game drivers are the key to get back the performance crown with the HD 4870x2.

Good to see ATI with the improved AA performance. Can't wait to see how well these cards can overclock.
