i dont think there will be a 1gb and 2gb version.

the debate here is whether it will have 1gb or 2gb. which means 512mb per core or 1gb per core.

tbh, i dont see the point in them releasing a 1gb and 2gb version, so it would seem silly if they did.

as for benches, yes please. i want hard proof that a 4870X2 will perform 15% faster than Crossfire 4870's, given they are technically the same concept.

That's not even close to being right...

You think that's the case just because both numbers are 256? Lol.

If the 4870x2 2GB actually retails for $500, then IMO it really doesn't matter if there are significant performance gains; 2x 4870 1gbs in crossfire would cost $800 on their own, so even if performance of the 4870x2 is only equal to the crossfire setup (rather than above it), you still save $300 for the same performance and even have the capability to do 2x 4870x2 for $1000 (although I can't see anyone but reviewers doing this).

yeah good point...

but if you experienced the 3870X2, you'll know that it doesnt always work the way they plan it. the 3870X2 had heaps of issues at launch. would rather have spent the money on 2x 3870's.

plus im in Australia, we have to pay WAY more than you guys lol. i'd only be expected to save like $90 at the very most if these retail prices are assumed accurate.

Well they will tell you $499, but I don't believe them for a second. But they also will tell you it is only 1GB memory and it coming out in July.
The NDA and release date are the 4th week of July, but like every other video card release, it won't be available for at least a week.

The two cores on R700 communicate through the vRAM. They share the same vRAM, it won't be split. The dual 256bit buses will function as a truly 512bit bus.

ATI wants market share more than they want insane profits.

Indeed. I cannot see ATI pushing the prices much if at all as they do want more Market share and fair play to them.

A ton of cards (including the 4850, GTX280, and GTX260) were available before their launch date.

Those cards were the beginning of a new series(GT200 and RV770) Some places may have the thing early, but I doubt it. It will not be available in mass quantities for a few days after release.

EDIT: OR, if ATI wants to see how much people love the thing, they will send shipments en mass to the retailers.
