Well this most certainly proves that Nvidia just price gouges out of the ass. They charge way too much and then when they get their ass kicked they bring down the prices. I'm glad ATI is here to kick their ass and keep their heads from going too far into the clouds.

You realize RAM isn't everything, right?

I'm not trying to argue that nVidia overprices everything, because they do, but this isn't proof at all. nVidia's yeild on the chips is too low for them to afford going lower. So until they update their manufacturing proccess they can't do much lower without losing money.

I say that Nvidia should lower them even more if they want to be selling them more.Everyone is buying the new 48xx series since its cheap and it has the performance.

You can't compare it like that

For example, a 9600GT only has 64 stream processors compared to the 8800GS' 96. The 9600GT still beats it

You have to compare actual performance which in this case,

4870 > GTX260

Yeah Nvidia is in crisis mode and since they do not have another GPU to match the 48xx series they simply had to drop the price drastically, I fear though it might be too little too late.

Yeah because you have seen their internal costs.

I think that GTX260 > 4870 because of the better warranty and less heat output. But you won't see me buying either.

you can't scale down big gpus while you can scale up small gpus.
Hope Nvidia learned their lesson. I think they were too confident with the G92 and didn't expect ATI to top it down. Its been a year, give ATI some credit...
