So GTX260 vs 4870? Who wins in that case?

GTX260 has 896 mb vs 512 on the radeon

But the 4870 uses GDDR5 vs GDDR3 on the GTX260...

The 4870 generally benchmarks between the GTX260 and 280, but almost always above the 260. Although you seem worried about the amount of RAM in several of your posts, so it might be worth waiting a couple weeks and seeing how the 1gb 4870s do when they come out, and what they cost.
