but the 4870 isnt competiting against the 280 from what i understand. I thought the 4870x2 or the r700 spartan was going to fill the ultra enthusiast niche.

Well surely does look like the 4870 pwns the 260, I'd like to see how it stacks up againest the 280. Also can't wait to see a 4870x2/280GTX comparison. Have to hand it to ATi this gen they really are owning it up. Don't get me wrong NVIDIA's cards are impressive, it's just I can't justify paying that much for a GPU..

I may even make my first ever ATi purchase this year!

That's why GURU3D only counts the GPU score rather than the full score. I think all review sites should do this.

My good sir....If you want high-end versus high-end, then I believe you should compare the GTX280 vs whatever R700(i.e., 4870X2). That should suffice. Or as some others have pointed out...compare GTX280 vs 2x 4870's (for approximate price comparison.).

Close battle, both choices are good
260GTX SLI for nVIDIA chipset owners, HD4870 CF for Intel/AMD chipset owners

As for comparison, You CAN compare a GTX280/GTX280 SLI to HD4870/HD4870CF
both cards are top of line of their Series and some people have a lot of $$$ and won't mind paying over $200 for the few FPS increase of the GTX280 over a HD4870

Good job for ATI, I love competition

Considering that the GTX260 in single card is better performing but the drivers are better for the ATI in CF, two HD4850s in CF vs. two GTX260s in SLI would be a more direct comparison.

4850 is not even competing with 9800GTX let alone GTX260.

Scaling. Trifire and Trisli are as high as you see any major improvements, so no need to go any higher...

Limit "one rebate per person" so the price reflected for two inconsequential.
