Similar to Bloomfield, Lynnfield is a native quad core CPU, supports SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading), has 8MB Shared Cache. The main difference is Lynnfield will only supports Dual Channel DDR3, and Bloomfield supports Tri Channel. What’s more, Lynnfield have PCI Express interconnection inside, make it totally supports PCIe 2.0 X16, or dual PCIe 2.0 x8 crossfire.

X58 features Quick Path Interconnect, but Ibex Peak doesn’t. Ibex Peak will only use the old DMI (Direct Media Interface) link, peak speed will be 2GT/s, which is totally enough for southbridge connection.

Intel still need a year to polish the platform so let’s wait and see.

I knew that integrating the memory controller into the CPU die would be more difficult and take a lot more time then Intel originally told us about.

Another BIG issue is, how much is all of this new technology going to cost?!

according to wikipedia, there will be a 3rd for the octo-core versions.

That's about as relevant to consumers as the FC-PGA4.

Having one socket for the X48/X38/P45 replacement and one for the lower-priced ones is different, though. Personally I don't see why everyone is so fussed, nearly everyone here have boards in the X58 segment anyway (P35 and upwards). Of course it's going to be expensive at launch but it launches in a few months. I'd say spring 09 it'll become affordable just like Penryn got after the initial 07 'launch' (if one would call it that).

As per an Intel Rep, all of these names are places you can literally find on a map some place. This means they don't have to worry about copyrighting the name of it or any of that stuff.

That's common practice.... i.e. the AMD Athlon line was named after cities with racetracks. Intel CPUs are named after towns near the development site.

I guess Ibex Peak is just the codename and not the final product name/code.
