You can get a HD4850 for $189.99 out the door and it's $159.99 after MIR. I don't see the 9800GTX+ competing with the HD4850 if it cost $199. The only reason I can see getting a 9800GTX+ is if you have a Nvidia motherboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102747

That is flawed logic. You are comparing the MSRP of the 9800GTX+ to the street price of the HD4850. They both have a MSRP of $199.99 and chances are the 9800GTX+ will come with plenty of discounts and rebates.

It all comes down to which games you play, how well they overclock, and at what resolutions you play whether you should get a HD4850 or a 9800GTX+. At the $300 level I think there is no question the 4870 is the best buy right now.

Until you can get a 9800GTX+ at $159.99 my logic is correct. It doen't matter what the MSPR is set at, it's the final price that counts.

Yeah... The MSRP isn't the "final price"

Your are assuming that the 9800GTX+ will have a price close to the final price of a $159.99 HD4850, when it comes out, but you have no proof. So until that happens my logic is correct. It is fact right now that you can get a HD4850 for $159.99 that's not an assumption.

he never said it was

And I don't know *** you're talking about when you say "it depends on what resolution you play at"

Both of these cards have 512mb of memory

Both of these cards use GDDR3

Both of these cards have a 256bit bus.

The only difference is that the 4850 takes less of a hit from AA, which makes it an overall better card... So, like that other guy said, the only reason I can see for buying any Nvidia card this round (aside from the 260 if you play at some extreme res) is if you have an Nvidia board.

More than likely the price of the 4850 will drop...

You are comparing two different things. With the 9800GTX+ launching tomorrow we will see by the end of the week what kind of prices you can expect. However take a look at any GPU GTX280, GTX260, and the 8800GT. All of them have MIR's and discounts.

Agreed. at the end of the week my statement could seem illogical but as it stands right now with the facts in front of us it does make sense.
