Default [expreview] Ibex Peak is a single chip core-logic solution, says Intel

Quote:

Intel integrated memory controllers into Nehalem architecture, but it doesn’t mean the chipset will be small:Intel shows us a slide, saying Ibex Peak will be a single chip core-logic solution.

Graphic will directly connect to CPU, so does DDR3 memory. So the chipset will only in charge with input output equipments and display. Compare to graphic and memory, I/O and display is not bandwidth intensive so Intel keeps DMI links on Ibex Peak.

I still don't get this... Does this mean that Larabee will be put into the chip or will the chip be like a master control to the graphics cards. Anyways they should implement multi-monitors into SLI!

Larrabee has nothing to do with it, it's very simple:

- Intel integrated graphics (yes those things made for running Word and maybe a little Windows Aero) get moved from the northbridge to the CPU package
- PCI-E lanes get moved from the northbridge to the CPU package.

Larrabee isn't ready for Nehalem with IGP, these are still the same old Intel GMAs.

Oh ok then.

Integrated Graphics was with the Northbridge? Man I thought it was a separate chip on the motherboard. And to think I've had one of those for 4 years before this rig!
