With access to a machine shop and composites facility it would be pretty simple to build my own All-in-one... Of course it wouldn't compete with anything from an OEM in terms of price but the quality would be significantly higher.

There are no differences between Mac and IBM compatible hardware(haven't heard that term in a long time have ya?) anymore.
Mac decided to start using Intel's chips because of the price point and they install a hardware ROM called the Infineon chip. Here is one of the articles. http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/21...-controversial So you before when they "made" their own hardware and stuff they could pass off their higher prices because of custom-type parts. Now it is the same thing in your PC except it has that chip so you can't load OSx on just any intel board. So yes..you are paying $600-700 more for the OSx software and to help line Apple's pockets in an attempt to show competition against M$. Naturally there is a hack for it already so you can load OSx on your intel machine because Apple had to write everything for the Intel and Nvidia hardware, so getting around a security chip was pretty easy. In the past loading OSx on a non-apple wouldn't work because of the hardware differences. Its no different than a Harley-Davidson...you aren't buying it for the performance, because the Japanese bikes out perform them hands down and are thousands cheaper.

Besides the whole laptop parts, and your "LCD" would be very thick due to having to hook the DVI cable up internally, or VGA.. Whatever.

I posted this a week or so ago in a gaming forum. The OP was wondering if the game was eventually going to be ported to Mac, because he was planning on buying a Mac for gaming...the thread then erupted in a Mac vs PC war, which is ultimately pointless IMO. However, because he stated he was getting the mac for gaming(yes just for gaming...since, as one user pointed out to him, he could always just run windows on his mac, but in the future if he wanted to actually utilize his mac for other things he could), since he had gaming in mind, and actually wanted to play the game we were discussing,(which has no plans for a mac version) I decided to do a little comparative shopping for him. Here is what I posted...the prices might be slightly out of date(its a week or two old), but likely its just about the same.
For $2699.00USD -3.06 Ghz Core 2 Duo -Proprietary Motherboard..limited/no support for upgrading/overclocking -4GB 800 Mhz DDR2 -nVidia GeForce 8800GS w/512 GDDR3 -1TB SATA HDD Drive (1.5GB/s ?? 3.0GB/s?? doesn't specify) -Wireless Keyboard/Mouse -A nice harmless appearance -MAC OSX -24" Display OR For $2531.88USD, here is the beast of a PC you get: -2.4 Ghz Core 2 Quad (quad core, easily clockable to 3ghz, even 4ghz with water cooling) -ASUS Rampage Formula Intel x48 motherboard -8GB OCZ ReaperX HPC DDR2 - 2 x Radeon HD4870 each with 512MB GDDR5 (note: ONE of these cards should straight up SMOKE the 8800GS that comes with the Mac)----now i would go with 4870x2 of course... -1TB Seagate Barracuda SATA 3.0GB/s -LG Blu-Ray/HD DVD ROM & 16x DVD DL DVD Burner -OCZ EliteXStream 1000W PSU -ThermalTake Armor+ Black Aluminum/Steel Full ATX Case(or any number of awesome cases on the market) -24" Westinghouse HDMI Widescreen Monitor -Windows Vista Ultimate 64 -a cheaper price tag, resulting in some extra money in your pocket...heck...probably enough to fill your gas tank a few times over. (not that I would build this exact PC per-se, but I was trying to make a cost comparative list)

Thats retarded. WHEN YOU CAN BUILD AN ALL IN ONE, LET ME KNOW.. And really, its a known fact you can build a better PC for less compared to an OEM. How about comparing OEM vs OEM.. Ya know, something that actually matters..

That is a good question, and one i feel can only be answered by one of my completely random polls.
