Yup. Years back when I had a Dell (I lived with my mom at the time and she wouldn't let me build my own rig ) a couple of pci slots on my motherboard went bad. I called Dell and did a little troubleshooting (if you can call it that lol) with a "tech support" rep over the phone. Once he was convinced the board was bad he sent me a new one free of charge.

The majority of them seem to be mid-high range media center pcs and I have seen a quite a few iMacs with busted dvd drives. I don't really get this quality aspect people always talk about with macs. They use pretty much the same parts internally as any other brand of computer out there. The chasis design is probably the only part that is better, however I also remember seeing a lot of mac book pros come in with warped chasis due to heat. So to put it bluntly macs don't really have better quality parts put into them like everyone assumes, they are basically a fashion statement, you pay for the "name" just like you pay for Nike shoes, which in reality probably came out of the same factory that those wal-mart velcro jobbies did.
So true.

Macs have created a stylish brand that people trust because of: the success of the iPod, the millions spent in marketing, and the user-friendly and graphically pleasing operating system.

However, if you seek power and customization, PCs' are dominant both economically and performance wise. You can spend 1,500$ on one of those Mac computers, or use that money and buy Newegg parts to build a custom PC that will outperform the Mac in every way.

I know you meant to say...unless it has to do with anything media related. Because for whatever reason (maybe the software is better, or the OS, I don't know), but I had to build a screaming quad core rig to even come remotely close to a Mac at video editing/encoding/high res photo rendering etc.

The Mac stock was still faster than the PC.

Or use that money and buy Newegg parts and build a custom PC that will outperform an HP, Dell, Gateway, ect. in every way...

No matter how you slice it, Mac and other PC OEM's are closely priced depending on what your looking for; and building a computer yourself will always beat them in price... But saying Mac is WAY overpriced is not fair unless you also call all other PC OEM's WAY overpriced as well..

Come to think of it I got a free sound blaster out of them too. I had booted up the dell and was getting all sorts of odd errors. Then once I got into windows I noticed my sound wasn't working. I called tech support and after some software troubleshooting I switched the card to a second pci slot at the request of the tech and still no luck, so he sent me a new one. When I got the new card I tried it in the same 2 slots the first card was in and I was still getting errors. Just for kicks I tried the new card in a third pci slot and it worked! I called tech support again which led to my mobo being replaced for free. After it was established the mobo was bad I asked if I had to send the sound card back (being that there was never anything wrong with the original) and he told me I could keep it.
