People of OCN: Stop flaming Apple for every little thing you can find. Some of you guys are just plain ridiculous.

This is no different from Windows contacting Microsoft servers to see if its genuine, ect ect.. Plenty of other similar practices that arent necessarily bad.
What it does, is looks at the list of apps apple has on its blacklist and disables them, so if you say, have a jail broken iPhone and have some custom apps on it and Apple decides it doesn't like those apps, they put it on the blacklist and bam, your apps are disabled.

And its nothing like MS making Windows phone home to see if your copy is genuine, if they made it phone home saying what programs, games, etc you have installed, so they could disable some of them at their will, then it would be like it, but it isn't.

I ask all of you this, do you think we can trust Apple with not getting annoyed at the Homebrew apps and getting the names, etc and disabling them with this? Because this is alright IF and only IF they use it to only disable Viruses.

It starts off as "malicious applications" then goes towards "illegal applications/pirated applications" then eventually you can only download from an "accepted Apple company" or something along those lines.

Look if your stupid enough to get a malicious program or whatever on your iPhone/iPod, YOU deal with it, but the point is that its MY iPhone/iPod I purchased it, Apple has no right to go into it and disable anything malicious or non without my consent.

This is assuming this is real.

Hah.

I have the iPhone 3G and it does awesome things. What do I care? Call me back later IF they actually abuse it.

I'm going on a Geocaching expedition in a little bit, then on Saturday I'll be going to the xkcd Geohash meetup. GPS + Phone + Internets + MP3 Player + any app you can imagine = WIN.

Does it have every feature that I could conceivable want? No. But these are just software issues that can be fixed with a few simple apps. It still has tons of features that I love.

If you knew anything about how the jailbreaking process works, you'd know that applications installed via a Jailbreak are installed differently than AppStore applications, and wouldn't be detected on an iPhone or iPod that phones home.

I'm quite certain we can, actually. First of all, as I said above, Apple won't be able to remove applications developed for jailbroken devices. Secondly, Apple has done nothing similar to what you suggest they might do in the past; why do you think they would start now?

Do you work for Apple? Did you pitch this idea? No?

Then stop acting like you did and that you're the holder of all knowledge.

Some guy found something that could potentially end up crippling your iPhone at a later date depending on how it is used.

Why would they use it right away? First week, use it, everyone finds out and voila, sales drop.

Wait say six months for tons of people to buy it and then use it, that way you're not missing out on as many sales.

(Last two parts all based on the fact they may use it to cripple homebrew)

This would only affect things from the App Store.

OH NOES! NO MOAR PHONESABER! MAH IPHONE IS WORTHLESZ! *suicide*
This won't affect homebrew in any way.

And watch the public backlash... This is just freaking moronic.

People of OCN, get brains. Apple, despite what you may presume to know about Apple, IS a rational company, holy crap. Who ever saw that coming. While this is shocking to many of you, please, get ahold of yourselves..

Seriously, its annoying and moronic.

Cry me a river and sale down it, you little pirate you..

Again, WHY would Apple do that? Public backlash anyone?
