How sure are you that your information is accurate? I read a thorough explanation of Crossfire awhile back that stated Crossfire can even use cards running at different clock speeds. I remember that specifically because I thought it was nice how you could use max OCs on both cards. I find it hard to swallow that it could allow both cards to run at different clock speeds, but not different shaders, etc.

Based on those reviews (and many other reviews minus Anandtech), the GTX260 is a better buy than the 4870. No only is it cheaper, it comes with better warranty support than the 4870 and in general its "low FPS" is higher than the 4870's.

Yeah, but performance is exactly the same as 4850 + 4850 crossfire, so it would be a waste to get a 4850 + a 4870.

If you already have a 4870 and don't want to pay for another, then getting a 4850 might be a reasonable thing to do.

The 4870 is only about 15% slower then the 280 but costs about 33% less. Crossfired 4870's cost about $550-$600, while sli 280's will cost you about $900-$1100. So from a price point 2 4870's almost cost the same as 1 and give you a almost a 40% boost in performance.
Not everyone..

Nvidia has already stated they're working on Hybrid SLI... It's not like this will be an ATI advantage. Well, maybe a cheaper solution. But for some; price is not an obligation, maximum performance is.

Hybrid SLI® technology, based on NVIDIA’s industry-leading SLI technology, delivers multi-GPU (graphics processing unit) benefits when an NVIDIA® motherboard GPU is combined with an NVIDIA discrete GPU. Hybrid SLI increases graphics performance with GeForce® Boost and provides intelligent power management with HybridPower™.

Exactly, it has nothing to do with combining 2 different cards.

I must be mixing it up with another word for it. Allow me to search for it... I know it exist, however.

EDIT: ForceWare, bleh. I can't find the original interview I found though, where the nvidia person states you could do something like this in the future.. Then again, I found it a while ago.

Just going on the article...their test results seem to back up what they said. A 4870 plus a 4850 performs pretty much exactly as two 4850s does.
