Default [TPU] E8600 Overclock Record Broken, 6.70 GHz a Reality

Quote:
Andre Yang, a civil engineer doing his PhD. in the US obtained a high-performing Core 2 Duo E8600 processor, he succeeded in overclocking this chip to a stellar 6.70 GHz clock-speed (FSB 672.16 x 10.0). The processor uses liquid-nitrogen (LN2) cooling and surprisingly this processor was overclocked on a motherboard with the Intel X48 chipset, the ASUS Rampage Extreme when previous record-holders across several recent processors made use of either the Intel P35 or P45-based motherboards.

Nothing new , you get liquid nitrogen and you get excellent overclock.

that's pretty nice, but if only we could achieve that with air or water...

The difference is that 6 GHz was never before passed on a Core processor.

It has been surpassed tons of times. On the E8400, E8500 and even on the E8600 once before. K|ngp|n was the first to pass 6Ghz, on 2x QX9775s on a skulltrail. The 6.7Ghz is surely the highest, but 6Ghz+ has already been done.

Back in the olden days, before Abraham Lincoln put an end to the megahertz myth -- or was it Theodore Roosevelt, we always get so confused -- the Pentium 4 ruled the land, with its deep instruction pipeline and PR-friendly xtreem clock speeds. Luckily, Intel wised up and started beefing up the quantity and efficiency of cores instead of just the megahertz, but the megahertz myth still lives on in our hearts, and OC Team Italy keeps that hope alive with its latest achievement: an 8000MHz (8GHz in layman's terms) overclocked Pentium 4. The lucky chip to reach such ridiculous frequencies is a "Cedar Mill" Intel Pentium 4 631, with a standard clock speed of 3GHz. It wasn't just a case of flipping a few pins here and there, the OC folks used a modified ASUS P5B motherboard, with an added copper pipe and a few voltage modifications, along with a little bit of your garden-variety liquid nitrogen to keep it all cool. Golf claps all around, OC, now can you do something to rev up a processor that's actually going to be useful for something? Wait. What's gotten into us? Keep up the good work!

Is it possible to get 5.0Ghz with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and E8600? What's the highest I could get do you think?
