I really haven't seen much on failing Nvidia graphics cards, maybe they reduce their lifespan a couple of years, but the 780i like some of you have mentioned is so defective to the point where there should be a recall on them because they have been responsible for putting their owners through hell taking hard drives n such with them, not imentioning the massive faluire rate of the chipsets.

Ha, same. These chips are like tanks.

I sure hope this might kick Nvidia down a notch and make them start treating both their customers and their partners a bit better..

makes me glad i own a G80 lol

but IMO, i think most of this is bs...seriously, how many people here who own an 8800GT/GTS/GTX have had it fail on them? they are praised ffs. and so what if they go bad, we get great warranties on them anyway.

My first 8800GT was DOA from Newegg. The 2nd one has been rocking solid for 5 months now. I am not worried, if it does fail I have a warranty to excerise.

Just because you havent had a problem, doesnt mean the cores dont have a problem.

Also, just bought a 9600GT.. damn lol.

Charlie called the problem with Nvidia's laptop GPU's, and was correct, so why doubt him? All of you are just a bunch of haters who just BANDWAGON onto the small group of people that started all the bs about the inquirer.

So get off the bandwagon.. Its got enough BS piled up on it already.

Even so. The Customer should not need to be put through an RMA process due to Nvidia's design flaws ( If any ).

H20 cooled.

One of them was weired. I was able to use another PCI card to boot into XP. The OS detected the 8800GT as a standard VGA device but the card wouldn't work either in the OS or during POST.

I understand that while I may not have had any problems it does not mean that they aren't there, but I have not had one single problem with my 8800GT and I've had it for a year. My computer stays on 15 hours a day, 7 days a week; it's overclocked 30% of the time and it's under load about 50% of that time. I don't think it's going to fail any time soon, at least it's not giving me that idea. The card functions as advertised and if it lasts 2-3 years with me beating on it I'll be happy. I plan to upgrade sooner than that anyway (as should most people).
That's one way to get alot of thread views and alot of people interested; say that one of the most common video cards around here are failing .

The problem is constant heating and cooling cycles they go through(why laptop GPUs are failing first). Not Being real hot.
My comment was geared towards G92s and specifically GTSs... Again, in this case the absence of proof begs the question. Do we take Charlie's claim at face value? Let us exam and interpret his wording,

Quote:
It seems that four board partners are seeing G92 and G94 chips going bad in the field at high rates.
How the hell can you draw any definitive conclusions when you preface a claim with "It seems"? Which four board partners(or at least were they the big three BFG/EVGA/XFX)? Were they non-reference designed G92s? What constitutes a high failure rate, well in Charlie's mind anyway?

Quote:
In the end, what it comes down to is that the problem is far bigger than they are admitting, and crosses generational lines, process lines, and OEM lines... There is a common engineering failure here - this problem is far too widespread for it to be anything else.
That's a helluva claim... Instead of theorizing/speculating/BSing, why not do some real investigative journalism and find out what the common engineering failure truly is? I'll put this in the vernacular, "Mad Props" would go out to Charlie if he could do so...
