I had my first 8800GTS DOA. The second one has been running for months with no problems.

What would you have them do? RMA's are fairly painless in my opinion.

while it is painless, not everyone has the luxury of infinite time to be constantly sending things for repair/replacement. i bought a new Altima in october, the windshield washer reservoir somehow got a leak some time around february. I called the dealer, they said bring it in, it would be taken care of no charge. Its august, and i still haven't taken it in.

Its not a big deal, but its another annoyance that no one needs. (and you're down for two weeks)

my G80 seems to be faring well

Oh noes!
Oh, wait. Nothing has changed. My 8800GT is still up and running 24/7 (bought last november, i was few months off this year).

I guess i could blame NVIDIA for all those 10-20 lost work units (100% completed) that Folding@Home says i have never done.

I still have over a year or two left of my guarantee.
If they run out of 8800GT's they have to give me my money back or a better product to replace it.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

Sounds bad for Nvidia, but I haven't really heard too many reports of dead 8800GT's.

Considering half of OCN seems to have one, you'd think the problem would surface more.

It seems that four board partners are seeing G92 and G94 chips going bad in the field at high rates. If you know what failures look like statistically, they follow a Poisson distribution, aka a bell curve. The failures start out small, and ramp up quickly - very quickly.
Well, looks like the next month may be when to watch out..

Really, if Nvidia screwed up their design on the chip itself that causes problems later on, then they wouldnt really be able to catch that.. Till its too late of course.

Thats why you buy American Cars. Made in the USA or Canada by Union Workers. Dodge Intrepid FTW

This doesn't discourage me, I'm still gonna get the 9800GTX+
