Is that supposed to be special? My old mobo has a removable BIOS chip too (Although it's a lot bigger, as you may expect from older tech)

Uh yeah it is special for Asus.. 965P was the last time I have seen that they had a removable BIOS chip on a premium or deluxe mobo..

*You can loosen timings to also to help with heat and voltage stability as well..so there are plenty of ways to remedy it. The hardest part of using over 8GB's would be getting that many IC's that are all tolerant on the same timings.
