Did anybody else notice that they are using Catalyst 8.4 beta for the CFX? What the heck?

Yes just like the 177.39 drivers for tri sli were better then anything higher till the 177.83 drivers came out. I tried the 8.8 and the cards and 8.4 were better... just look at the ati section...
__________________heres a link with someone having an issue with the 8.8 also http://www.overclock.net/4399750-post233.html over at extreme systems everyone using using the 8.4 drivers also

Where do you get this 8.4 beta driver, anyway? Personally, I have found that if you just stick to the latest official driver release (currently 8.7), you will have the least problems. All the speed increases in the beta drivers and such usually work their way into the official ones anyway.
