Look at the P5Q, with its very handy 24-pin connector smack dab in the middle on the board, way on the other side of the northbridge. Worst position ever?

The P5Q is asus buget low end P45 board. Hence why it has the annoying placement of the power connector. It is cheaper to put it there. All but the P5Q have it in the "normal" place.

yes...and that is some asus cheapo motherboard for the people that look at the layout of the board once in the life, the time they buy it...

Other budget boards have it out in a more normal spot, I'm baffled as to why ASUS put it there. If it were common on other budget boards I could understand (ASRock doesn't count since they're a subdivision of ASUS), but they changed the design around for no readily apparent reason. I find it difficult to believe that it's cheaper since ECS, Biostar, and other budget board companies aren't doing it.

And the P5Q isn't even that cheap - it's around $120-$130, it's got an 8-phase power design with an 8-pin CPU connector, MOSFET heatsinks, all-solid capacitors, onboard RAID and Firewire, and is generally a pretty full-featured board except for that terrible P1 placement.

how are u supposed to CF/SLI with that board the pcie*16 slots are next to each other i dont think it would fit 3 8800gt (reference coolers) on the board much less 3 gtx280/4870s
