Look at the P5Q, with its very handy 24-pin connector smack dab in the middle on the board, way on the other side of the northbridge. Worst position ever?

The P5Q is asus buget low end P45 board. Hence why it has the annoying placement of the power connector. It is cheaper to put it there. All but the P5Q have it in the "normal" place.

You're right - but some people (like me) care about not only performance but looks too. You don't train for years to play in the Superbowl or something and go in looking like you came out of a gutter.

And the P5Q isn't even that cheap - it's around $120-$130, it's got an 8-phase power design with an 8-pin CPU connector, MOSFET heatsinks, all-solid capacitors, onboard RAID and Firewire, and is generally a pretty full-featured board except for that terrible P1 placement.
