The great part about having another company work on things like this, is having another set of brains working on a problem. The Lucid Hydra 100 is an independent chip that takes care of making the cards work together, instead of the current SLI/Crossfire solutions that use something different (I really dont know how it works, my guess would be a combination of the SB and bridge, but the exact details, no clue)

Not saying its 100% though, but the results should be good at least.

This isn't going to gain larrabee any ground AFAIK. Larrabee, being x86 based, isn't going to raster anything on par regardless of if it scales 100%... This is really convenient for Intel considering nVidia's decision to keep SLI close to its chest. This allows them to completely forget about green team and their consumers will nothing but benefit from it. I'm hoping that this thing doesn't get caught up in tape by ATI and nVidia... Let's hope that the folks behind this have kept their noses squeaky clean.

Nice article from PC perspective on the topic

After reading the above article, I have a better idea of how they justify their claims. It's pretty slick.

They actually have monitors up and running side-by-side, each showing which part of the scene is being rendered by a single card.

I think I just got my hopes up. I hate it when that happens.

Thats a 100% meh statement right there... Intel is only funding a project that started before they ever even knew about it, they aren't the ones developing it...

That could be a good thing: It's better than having Intel try to 86 them. Intel uses them to bypass the whole Nvida/Intel debacle.

It could be a bad thing: The old 100-mpg carburator analogy. They're funding it so they can bury it or turn it to suit their own purposes.

Unfortunately, the small fish tend to get swallowed up by the bigger ones when they threaten the bottom line. Classic Bambi vs. Godzilla scenario; the little guy is going to make a entire profit division of particular companies obsolete. Do said companies A) do nothing? B) try to find some way to maintain the status quo?

so according to the PC Perspective link, using ATI and Nvidia cards together won't work as the drivers wont play happily together with the same app.

I think, regardless of what happens, or who ends up owning the rights, or how it's implemented, this is gonna be a good thing.

I think the consumer SHOULD have the ability to run multiple GPU set-ups on motherboards so equipped, regardless of which company made what. Begone, foul proprietary set-ups!

For me, I tend to update either the GPU or the CPU each year. For me, when I move to 775 later this year, I will be forced to buy a NVIDIA chipset if I want to keep my SLI set-up. However, this prevents me the option of going to a crossfire set up, which is, of course, the way NVIDIA likes it.
So....C'mon Hydra, bail me out, here.
