Default [DT] eBay Shifting From Auctions To Fixed Prices

The current system puts eBay at a disadvantage."

Many sellers are praising the move. Rhonda Shrader, a maker of women's clothing from San Francisco says she already changed most of her items to fixed price, so the cuts are especially helpful. She says today only 10 percent of her sales come from auctions. She adds, "I think the auction was a novelty at the beginning, but now people want what they want, when they want it."

Right, whenever eBay talks about making people happy, it tends to actually piss people off.

I put this under Hardware News since many of us buy hardware off of eBay. I for one am a big fan of the auction, since I can swoop in and bid snipe to get the item cheaper. Sure, others do it too but I have never lost a bid sniping match. I have been able to score things for pretty cheap, especially when the listing was mispronounced so people would hardly see the listing: "Corsare Memory".

Apparently it's going to happen right before the holiday season, which is coming up fast.

I don't know about you guys, but I almost always go for buy it now.

Everything I have bought off of ebay, was cheaper to and faster through by it now.

Infact I can only remember ONE instance where auction was cheaper than buy it now, and that was for a pool cleaner for my dad.

I think this is great.

Too many times have I called someone about a particular item, all happy that I am getting it dirt cheap, only to be told that it has been sold. ARG! Nobody removes their obsolete posts!

Of course this is good for her. It means no one gets her skanky clothes for 1p anymore! It removes the risk for the seller and removes the bargain potential for the buyer!

Ebay is only popular because people want a bargain! This will remove that in most cases because the seller will just list the price instead of hoping to achieve the price (Yes I know they already have a system set in place called reserve) but this is different. Every guy and his dog will be listing with a price they are happy with, not the cheapest price they would be willing to let it go for.

I agree, too many people get into bidding wars and bid items up to MORE than I can find them for online. It's like the people that use ebay have no idea how to use the internet in any other way and are incapable of realizing that better deals are out there. And there are so many of those nigerian scams on there now, I have used the site once in the last few years. It was to buy my COD4 key and I used buy it now. I am all for another auction site, but I don't think ebay works as one anymore. They may as well switch to fixed prices only

As for sniping at the last minute, I have a program that does that. It has been useful a few times long ago, but now it is pointless since just about every item is bid well past what a sensible person would pay for it

I have almost always gone for "Buy It Now" as opposed to the auctions. So it doesn't really bug me.
