made the decision a while back that when my ipod dies ill buy a zune, cant wait to find out what i have been missing

Well if you've already got a large FLAC collection it makes sense then. My collection is largely MP3s, but certain CDs that are of particular importance get the WAV space on the ipod.

Wouldn't 24bit surround WMA beat WAV quality? (I have an album like this, digital download only for this quality. Not supported by CDs. 4MBPS isn't SSD friendly though.)

All I need is 256k .mp3 and I'm happy. I like the iPod for the click wheel and aftermarket support. If the zune got a click wheel identicle to an iPod's I might consider one because some features are really nice...I just cant go without the wheel.

Sure there's better audio than WAV but you're limited by the player's hardware capability and two tiny speakers, so there's gotta be a point when it becomes pointless to go over a certain quality.

Yes, being an audiophile is usually a very subjective hobby, getting the placebo effect after buying a 3000$ setup can be commonplace.
