ATI/nVidia will still need driver teams, this chip doesn't replace the driver with a "Hydra driver". It's simply processes what job goes where. There will probably be some sort of "data library" that the chip accesses to get info for each game, but it's not a driver per se.

Hm, if this is on motherboards by the time I upgrade my GPU I'll go nVidia instead of ATI, so my 6800GS has a use.

I believe the HYDRA can support up to 4 GPUs even?

I can't wait for this to come out... I onder who might take this chip to put on their motherboards.

If this works wouldn't this make the NF200 chip... Redundant?

I doubt it can handle any number of GPUs... that would mean that the chip would have unlimited processing power.

Just checked, the current model limited to either 2x16 or 4x8 mode. It might be able to do 4x 9800GX2/4870X2 for 8 GPU cores.

The initial Hydra 100 supports up to 32 PCIe 2.0 lanes, and you can split it up to 2x16 or 4x8, hence the 4 GPU support. It could possibly do 8 GPUs in 4870x2 configurations, but that will have to wait for future drivers.

What about graphic cards having different DirectX version? Or not same drawing/AA?

That render kinda funny ^^.

/me awaits single graphics card with four RV870 chips and one Hydra chip

Yeah, I'd buy that. It seems this thing works as advertised.
