The chip works by dividing up and delegating DirectX commands. The driver will have a list of recent cards (last 3 yrs) and their capabilities. If you are running a DX10 game with a DX9c and DX10 card... the Hydra should provide the DX9c card calls that it is capable of running and not any DX10-exclusive calls.

What do you mean by same drawing/AA?

Hydra chip makes much more sense on the motherboard due to cost, PCB space, and flexibility.

Oh I know they will still need driver teams but they won't need a dedicated group to write crossfire/sli drivers so many people will be freed to do other things.

Why would they be :turd:ing themselves?

The whole point of CF and SLI is to sell more GPUs. Since both technologies are no longer chipset dependent, the profit is solely with the GPUs. This technology will only increase the demand for multiple GPUs.

I'm surprised that no one has thought to buyout Lucid yet. If the upfront costs saves the driver team more time and money in the long run and it gives the linear performance boost, it might actually be worth it. Plus, buying Lucid out will prevent the competitor from using the technology on their GPUs.

I know this sounds harsh, but that's the corporate (aka selfish) side of me thinking!
