It's not like AMD reverse engineered Intel's 8080 to come up with their first CPU.

...oh wait.

Intel is having teething issues with Nehalem's onboard memory controller, Deneb is looking to be a real bombshell and this means Intel is trying to find a way to pick a fight with AMD.

They found one with the rumors that AMD wants to split into two seperate companies, one making and one designing. They're using copyright infringement or something along those lines to do this.

I, personally, don't care. Deneb and Nehalem will both launch before this gets anywhere, and the worst case is that AMD isn't allowed to split(Which would demolish Intel's entire case)

I'm sure they will come to some sort of agreement:

AMD are splitting into two separate companies. Which would mean they are outsourcing 100% of their manufacturing process. Breaching a patent and royalty agreement with Intel. Intel intends to see they're compensated or is going to try to stop AMD oursourcing all thier x86 ventures.

This doesn't mean AMD will have to shutdown or be forced not to split. That is scaremongering jibba jabba. The worse case is AMD split but have to come up with a new agreement with Intel.

EDIT:

And the worst case is almost identical to the ideal outcome.

Exactly.

I think this is stupid and childish.

Intel has a butt load of money and more market share than AMD can shake a stick at yet they continually feel threatened by a company 1/10 its size.

Does Intel really want more evidence on the AMD side of the anti-trust suit?

Well, I do feel Intel has a right to demand compensation. AMD making processors has made a lot of people very rich and now AMD are going to break away and take away that revenue from Intel. I don't think it's sick at all. It's business and undercutting Intel like AMD would be doing, by breaking a patent agreement, calls for action from any type of business.

What I think is stupid are the calls that Intel are trying to hinder AMD. Maybe that are, but not the way those people are talking about. All Intel is trying to do is protect it's IP interests and they're entitled to do so.

I think saying that Intel are trying to put AMD down and hinder their progress is wrong on two levels.

1) It's scaremongering. Unfactual and purely speculation

2) It's a diss right on AMD to suggest they are hindered somewhat by this case. Like saying AMD isn't good enough as it is and needs to break away from Intel to get better, when the reality is AMD are saying they need to break away from themselves so they can have two super efficient companies working as one.
