Default [Reuters] Intel says will defend patent rights against AMD

Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Intel Corp said on Tuesday it has "serious questions" about a deal announced by Advanced Micro Devices to spin off its manufacturing business and focus on chip design, and is ready to defend its patents.

Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy said that AMD and Intel have a patent cross-licensing agreement under which AMD pays royalties to Intel.

"Intel has serious questions about this transaction as it relates to the license and will vigorously protect Intel's intellectual property rights," Mulloy said of AMD's announcement.

Mulloy said Intel has asked AMD to make the agreement public but he said it would not, so he was not at liberty to discuss the matter in detail. (Reporting by David Lawsky)

Intel really wants to trample AMD now that they have some competitive products coming in...

Intel seems a lil angry lol. Imagine all those AMD fan boys being sick at the thought of AMD paying royalties to Intel. I say good on ya AMD for trying to add some competitive competition (at last) but looks whats happening to you! Now whats the name of that board game where u get $200 for passing go Monop...........

Maybe intel will get them shut down so they can finally do what they've wanted to for years. Charge you $500 for a $200 CPU.

They're already doing that. Have been since the Yorkfield quads IMO.

I think Intel is worried that if they split into two companies, the new companies won't be obligated to pay royalties.

And doesn't Intel use AMD's implementation of x86-64? This could get ugly
