AMD/ATI really needs to work on their product launch quality control. The K10 launch has TLB errata problems, and now the 4830 has the wrong bios. It might not be a big problem in this case, but it still makes the product look bad.

At the end of the day, i'd rather a company admitted that these flaws were there than try to cover it up.

Goodness knows how many bugs some products have that are never publically announced.

Im personally thankful that, both with the TLB erratum and the SP Mixup, AMD has openly admitted the mistake and taken some measure to fix it.


And also, the only cards affected were ATI reference review samples. Sub vendors usually flash on their own BIOS's so it shouldnt affect end users at all.

Uh, no. Considering only <400 cards have this problem, it's likely they DIDN'T know.

No. I would think they have less SPs natively to fit more chips on a wafer to reduce manufacturing costs, or the additional SPs are just physically disabled (possibly 48xx series GPUs that didn't pass QC?)
