Default [THG] Sneak Peek: Four Core i7 X58 Motherboards

Quote:
And so it begins. The first motherboard to land in our lab (besides Intel’s own X58 platform, which remains under embargo, but is hardly a secret given its presence at IDF) is ASUS’ P6T Deluxe. This ASUS plaform seems to be targeted at both overclockers and workstation customers. After all, it includes a USB-powered OC Palm device, used for handheld overclocking and an onboard SAS controller, which enables high-availability storage at a considerable premium for those who need more enterprise-like functionality.
This is just the intro to the article, check out the link for everything.

WOW, great reviews, too bad no benchmarks. I'm still probably going to get the P6T, but that ROG board looks sick. Maybe the price won't be that bad?

I was probably going to get the P6T also, but I'll read the reviews first either way.

What worried me is that probably all the launch boards are going to be the OC version and have that little palm device. I wouldn't mind having it, but I don't think it would be worth a $50 premium compared to the non-oc versions.

I have a $600 budget for the low end i7 and a motherboard, but I really don't want to pay that much...

Hmm I liked the two x16 2.0 ports that can run together with Asus. I also like the 24 gigs of RAM with the MSI board. The OC potential of the Rampage is nice, but a lot of stuff I wont need or use. They all have nice features on their own but it will be tought to choose which is most important. I hope they do a huge X58 mobo roundup of basic features in Nov so I can make my decision.

What is the use of that OC Palm other than a gimmick? You can do everything it can do inside of Windows or in the BIOS. I would trade that feature for a nice soundcard bundled or something like some other boards.
