Yes, you can remove and upgrade the motherboard, but you'd have to find a motherboard that would fit your case and everything would go together properly. Really, it's not worth it.

If you buy a pretty good laptop now, you won't need to upgrade it for two to four years. By then, you'll have gotten your money's worth out of it.

It must be... I usually just call it my "Dell XPS" and that's that. I think it may be that Dell calls it an M1710 every time I call them up to complain about the screen shutting API not being removable.
