Default [INQ] ATI Grabs 40% of Marketshare

http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquir...rket-share-amd

Quote:
GRAPHICS ADD-IN BOARDS are doing rather well under the economic circumstances claims a new report by graphics analyst, Jon Peddie, who also reckons AMD’s new graphics chips are grabbing market share away from Nvidia.

A new report released today reckons there’s been an increase in AIB shipments, with overall shipments up by 17.8 per cent (sequentially) and unit shipments for AIBs up 11per cent to 21.9 million. Despite being up sequentially, however, graphics add-in board unit shipments were down year-to-year.

Nvidia was also probably feeling a bit down, after taking a bit of an AMD pounding. According to Peddie, "AMD has by all accounts exceeded expectations with its Radeon HD 4000 series," and the firm’s aggressive pricing has also had an impact, causing prices of AIBs to drop.

Helped along by its new line, AMD managed to power its way from 35 per cent market share in Q2 to 40 per cent in Q3, as well as forcing Nvidia and its band of not so merry partners to slash prices on its recently-released GTX 200 series.

"Discounts cut into ASPs (average selling prices), taking a toll on revenue for both Nvidia and the market overall” noted JPR. µ

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it should work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single-Rail/Non-Modular PSUs are not always better than Multi-Rail/Modular

Pros: I loaded up Bioshock and maxed out the settings, but this graphics slit the game's throat then ate it's entrails for dessert. It slammed Assassin's Creed's head onto the curb then stomped its head into that curb until it was nothing but a bloody pulp. This card is one bad mo-fo. It'll backhand your sister and degrade your mom, but they will still love it and want to date it because it is just that good. I love this card so much that I burned my tongue trying to french kiss it, and I still keep trying.

nVidia...you guys must have failed big time. You are getting beaten by a graphics chip maker dragging an ailing CPU company around with it!

I thought I read from Tech report that the 40% applied to only HD4000 discrete cards, that means HD3600 and 3400 are not included here.

Maybe it's just a typo, because the implications are scary if it wasn't.
