... in other words, the Quadro is the 55nm nVidia refresh but with more memory, if this article is to be believed. i have my doubts, tbh

It's Theo Valich BTW. (ROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFL)
Sorry, I had to. ![]() Anyway, he's wrong on the 5800 using the 55nm chips, I reckon. That chip went for another respin at least, and shouldn't pop up that fast. They're just using super-graded GT200s that run at a lower voltage compared to usual, I think.

the TDp of the 4gb quadro was quite lower than a stock gtx280 while being clocked hgiher on the core so it might be true.

Theo is BSing. He said that GT200-302 is currently used in new GTX 280s. This is true, but the real model name of that chip is GT200-302-A2.
![]() GT200b = 55nm. Good GTX 280 samples (note: reviews) used +20W at load relative to the HD4870, instead of 70-80W as what the TDP would say. Some people had bad apple 280s which ran rather hot off the bat but was probably still under specifications, so I think nVidia's TDP rating was directed towards first batch chips instead of later revisions. This would probably lead to a conclusion that the 280's TDP is overrated, especially if you have special bins that like mobile chips, are more mature products of longer time since manufacturing. (Mobile 8800GT does not use 100+W for example) A good batch of new revision 65nm GTX280s would probably get a 180-190W TDP. Now, we have the extra clocks and 3GB of extra GDDR3. The latter I can explain easily by the usage of lower voltage GDDR3 (lower clocks here), and the same number of chips on board (PCB is exactly the same as GTX280/260). High clocks? For goodness' sake, this card sells for $3.5k. They might as well cherry pick 1 thousand or so best batch 302-A2s and clock them higher at the same voltage.
