Default [Guru3d] 4870 vs gtx 260 (216)

Looked and didn't see this posted anywhere...
I just read this and thought it was a pretty interesting read. I know there have been a ton of comparisons between these cards but this uses some of the newest games and the newest drivers for both ATI (8.11) and Nvidia (180.47). Plus they're benching on a new i7.

Quote:
Now the tale goes like this; when the GTX 260 core 216 was released, we got a phone call from ATI, asking if we'd like to do an article on the Radeon HD 4870 1024 MB comparing it with the GTX 260 C216. And sure, why not. Then with the new driver being released this week, we got a phone call from NVIDIA, asking if we would like to do such a direct comparison article. And we figured... sure, that's fair enough. More power to consumers... wooooah.

4870 vs GTX260 is a valid comparison, they are competing in the same price bracket.

Thanks for the link, good to see an i7 bench with these cards and the latest applicable drivers. I am however, still unimpressed in the 216's performance at higher resolutions and with anti aliasing.

I should add that all of the benchmarks that they used (excluding COD4) favor Nvidia architecture.

WHOO! 280 would whoop the 4870. It edged out the 4850 here. Not by much, but it's cheaper too. Win one for team green!

Yes they cost the same but they are not in the same performance bracket. and when talking about performance which is the test they are doing then its un even to compare a sub par model. Now if they included price, a price bracket would be a variable.

For those that don't feel like reading who won.
Quote:
If you will allow me to be blunt for a second here: when we tally it up, that's 4 out of 6 wins for NVIDIA with the GeForce GTX 260 core 216. So this round the win goes to team green.
