Considering AMD has always been behind Intel in manufacturing process but yet has still managed to demolish them sideways in past matchups (2.2GHz Athlon beating 3.2GHz Intel), AMD is clearly the better company. AMD builds smart chips where Intel just uses their advanced manufacturing processes to brute force victories. If this were a contest, and Intel was limited to the smaller amount of transistors AMD has to work with, I don't think anyone would buy Intel chips anymore.

Are you serious? Intel just introduced part of AMD's 5 year old architecture in core I7. IMC, HT(QP for intel) and interconnect among cores. So, AMD's architecture is fine.

People are praising them for hitting high GHz under DRY ICE. Thats like saying my car wouldn't be faster using jet fuel. You bet your ass it would be...but I don't think my engine would live past a couple miles.

I see all sorts of "Way to go AMD..." or "Yeah AMD back in the game..." There wasn't and hasn't been a SINGLE benchmark on their quad.

I WOULD LOOOOOOOVE FOR AMD TO HAVE A HELL OF A QUAD, if anything it would force Intel to lower their prices a little, but given their track record the last couple years I am not betting on it.

Remember, before you call me a fanboy for pointing out hard facts, come back with something that even makes sense. Not, "You are the biggest fanboy ever...". That only solidifies my statements.

Why are you so pissy? The fact that they could hit these clocks on dry ice indicates that these might clock higher on water or air than the previous Phenom.

The problem I see with their doings, is that they DO NOT NEED to compete with previous gen Intel, they have been doing that for a couple years now and they are bleeding money because of it. They need a "come in swinging, knock your socks off" chip and it just doesn't seem that they are aiming for that. Its almost as if they are settling for being 'second best' and people are praising them for it.

That about sums it up. As far as clocks go...AMD needs a lot more than higher clocks at this point.

My main point was that most of the AMD comments were fairly tame and reserved, other than just excitement that AMD is releasing a truly decent chip finally. I think it is fairly evident from all we've seen that these chips will be fairly good, and it is also evident that they will not beat I7.

With that in mind, I think this will end up being just like the 4870 in the GPU world, which is a great thing for AMD. FYI last quarter (or the one before, I can't remember) AMD's market share actually rose. They aren't exactly raking in cash like intel, but I am fairly convinced that they are now at least somewhat firmly back on track.

I agree with you that we all would like to see AMD come out with something that really upsets the market, but that just isn't going to happen atm. What I can say though is that if this thing performs at least as good as promised, and is priced right, we are going to see a LOT of enthusiast systems with these chips installed.

It would be nicer if there was more evidence. Sure be awesome if this was true. However, I'd actually like to see Core i7 965 on dry ice too, we've already seen it hit 5GHz at 1.592V but there weren't a whole lot on how they cooled it.

Either way, it's rather impressive these new chips are hitting such speeds.

Profanity? You are kidding right? 'Pissy', as you put it, is every bit as "bad" as 'hell' or 'damn'.

Caps is for accentuation. It gets through a little better, as you noticed.

Naw, I just find that 26 pages of Nvidia flaming is perfectly acceptable(or Intel for that matter) but the second you tell an AMD follower not to 'count his eggs before they hatch' you are immediately ridiculed for being a fanboy and or stupid.
