REALLY NICE CHIP... Hopes to grap a AMD 940 or an I7 920 depending on the release date... and final overclock+performance

And how do you know that the new am3 boards will have dual channel?
Do you work at AMD or what?

offtopic: im tired of reading that your always defend intels i7.. I mean you invested in something that might just be beaten by the phenom(MAYBE)
and you get all mad and says that yours is better and clocker higher and ****.
Is it a golden chip? It's not like its the new q6600!

Until AMD can allow SLI and Crossfire to run on their motherboards they will still not be able to beat Core i7. I don't care about price all I want is performance. Only Crossfire just doesn't seal the deal. I still admit it is a great chip but I would like to see more reviews comparing it to the i7 lineup before I can come to a conclusion that AMD's cpu division is back.

It does if ATI has performance and price on their side. However, yes it definitely hurts, assuming nVidia regains control.

I hope not, AMD-AMD-AMD motherboards are awesome, Ill never use another board with an nVidia chip set and I doubt I will ever use another GPU from them either.

Do you work at AMD or what?
Yes, I am aware the difference between single, dual and triple channel is negligible in games. If you would have bothered to read my post, you would have seen I said just that in a parenthetical statement.

How do I know the Phenom II will not be triple channel? Well, for starters, I have half a brain and at least one good eye.

Other than support for DDR3 with the release of the AM3 version of the Phenom II, the memory controller (which is on the CPU die, not the NB) remains unchanged. It will be dual channel. That is however irrelevant, as we have already known that it makes no difference in games for a while now.

I do want to clarify something though. Somebody said that the motherboards and memory for the i7 are more expensive than they will be for the Phenom II. Yes, that is true with the X58 boards, but not with the memory.

Just because the i7 has support for triple channel memory, does not mean you need to use it. You can still buy a dual channel kit and use that instead, which will operate in standard dual channel mode just as always.

Looks good for AMD, you can see they have made some money back from the ATI 48** series. I'm guessing thats why the phenom 1 sucked, theyjust bought ATI and didnt have enough money to fund it properly.

Judging by this thread everyone seems to want one, so hopefully AMD will make a lot of money back and go back to owning Intel just like the good old days Things are looking good for AMD again!!

Oh and 003 have you read the tags?? LOL!

@003

...except that 4GB DDR3 starts at around $100 (the last time I checked). 4GB DDR2 can be had for a fifth of the price (AR). Look dude, there is a substantial $delta between a PhenomII and i7 setup, whichever way you look at it. I can probably fit in a 4870 (or 4850 or an equally good nVidia card) within that $delta if I am resourceful enough.
