Im so confused... Guru3d's review shows the phenom kicking ass at higher resolutions and keeping with the i7 920 but toms and Hardocp have the i7 destroying the phenom II WTH

Wow, quite the variance in these benchmarks... Think I'll hold my opinion till someone on here gets there hands on it and reviews it... Though power consumption system wise is looking good.

Second, it's not that big of a deal that they use DDR3 for the intel CPUs. DDR3 hardly makes any difference at all in games. If they had used DDR2, the results would have been very similar. Also, it is not AMD's fault that intel currently supports DDR3 and they do not. DDR3 can hardly be considered expensive these days, so don't try and pull the price card. You can get a very good dual channel kit of 2x2GB DDR3 1333 memory for below $80.

And if we're talking Core i7, you do not have to get a triple channel kit. Dual channel still works just fine, and there is zero performance difference in games when stepping from triple to dual channel, and even single channel most of the time.

Quit spewing this rubbish about a $1000 CPU as well... you can pick up a Core i7 920 for below $300, and they easily overclock to 3.8GHz on the stock cooler, and 4GHz+ on good air and water. Some people have even achieved 4.4GHz stable on water.

The only aspect of Core i7 that is still on the pricey side are the motherboards, but the prices are coming down. You can pick up an MSI X58 Platinum for ~$215 currently, and expect the prices to continue dropping on the boards.
It does indeed test how cpu bound the apps were, but who actually games at super low settings? If this is a gaming cpu, then what good is this review at super low settings?
P.S.: what are you talking about low resolution?? 2560x1600 I guess is kinda low... sarcasm intended*

It is a cpu review, but they should just as well test it at high settings to see how well it handles everything overall.

EDIT:
Oh, and I'd just like to point out, even though the Core 2 Quad system is using DDR3 1600 memory and the Phenom II is using DDR2 800 memory, the Phenom II still pulls higher memory bandwidth than the Core 2 Quad. Keep that in mind when you are saying it's so unfair that they are using DDR3.

You obviously didn't read the the article as carefully as I first didn't when I blasted Kyle on their forums...

I mentioned 1000.00 CPU's because that's EXACTLY what was USED.
DDR3 might have similar performance to DDR2 but it's NOT DDR2 so your argument about "hardly makes any difference" is only good in the most CARELESS of circumstances, you obviously don't have even the most basic understanding of testing standards and controls.

Oh, and you can pick up all the cheapy MSI boards you want, but you get what you pay for
