Lol, that picture is ridiculous. No LCD I've ever seen looks that terrible from any normal viewing angle, unless, like stargate just said, the brightness/contrast has been set to the worst settings imaginable.

If I'm not mistaken, contrast ratios, color range, response times, and price are the only real advantages to plasma. Everything else goes to the LCD, which is why it is selling better. Plasmas have an especially hard time selling in Colorado, where the average elevation is over a mile above sea level, and only some plasmas report to be able to handle that elevation very well.

The problem pioneer had is not that plasmas are bad, it is that they only had about 2-3% of the market. While they were one of the biggest names, they were never a real "player" in the market. And with only high-end tvs when the reccesion hit they could not remain profitable.

Ya I'm pretty sure the exposer on the camera was jacked up so you'd actually *see* something in the picture.

Sad to see Pioneer exiting TV business
the good thing is we still have time to buy one before they totally end it by March 2010.
We bought a Pioneer PDP-5030HD back in 2003...and to be honest, it still looks a lot better than many new LCD/Plasma TVs on the market today.

Well isn't the contrast ratio, color range, response time, and price the only criteria that should matter? I understand the elevation argument but honestly i never got why people would buy LCD over plasma. Plasma's clearly superior in terms of picture quality.

I wouldnt doubt that pioneer is stop production on tv's. The only real success they have had in recent years is the Kuro series of plasma's which are just amazing. But other than there not really known for their tv's. More known for high end car audio components, and um i really cant think of anything else, lol. Dang i did kind of want to buy a kuro plasma later this year but looks as if i wont anymore.

not really, only with in the last year or 2 have lcd's and plasma's really been on par with each other. Still, there are plus and minus's to each one. Personally once these LED LCD's and OLED LCD's come out plasma's are done for.

OLED will kill both LCD and Plasma anyway. Carry on.

I just picked up a 60" pioneer kuroon Saturday, sold my 60" sony lcd to pick it up. I must say it has an unbelievable picture. I would recommend to anyone to pick one of these up. The contrast and clarity are awesome, and I've never seen colors so rich. They are hard to find. The bestbuy near me had 4 left a few days ago, when I got mine it was the last one. While the guy was ringing it up, another bestbuy called to take it from them.

I saw the OLED when I went to pick up the pioneer and they had a nice picture but everything looked fake.
