As far as I know P3 is better than P4 in terms of clock-for-clock performance

So, you are saying that it is slower than P3 but faster than P4 ?

Is this the Atom for phones? I know they've been working on one.

What kind of crack have you been smoking? As far as I know Pentium 4 came after Pentium 3 and thus was a higher performing chip, unless I'm completely wrong and for some reason Intel decided with P4 that high clock speeds were more important than performance..............please, someone tell me I'm wrong haha.

Here you go, P3 is faster clock for clock VS P4s... and these Atoms are around the speed of a p4 clock for clock

Isn't the Atom 330 still better? It's dual core & hyperthreading

That's exactly what they did. All NetBurst-based CPUs (Pentium 4/D) were designed for high clockspeeds, and had extremely poor performance per clock. Highly optimized applications did run best on P4/D, but in general applications P3 did beat P4 clock-for-clock.

EDIT: Also, Core and Core2 are actually based on the same P6 architecture the Pentium 3 was based on... with aim for efficiency and better IPC count.

Interesting.

A 2.0 Atom is nice. That should solve most any issues. And couple this with Ion if that ever comes out (PLEASE COME OUT)

And you would have a fairly powerful machine.

The only down fall of Atoms right now is that same stupid video chipset that even hangs on 720p video...

What? You're saying the older architecture of the Pentium 3 was faster clock-for-clock then a Pentium 4?

This was ONLY true for the very first P4's that were 1Ghz. I forgot exactly why that was the case, but it didn't remain that way for very long. The very next process change on the P4's changed that.
