Hopefully Sony will catch sight of the new chip and upgrade their VAIO P, the US version of which could certainly do with a speed boost.

Yesterday news leaked about Intel’s upcoming mainstream processor plans for the next few months. They’re expected to announce two new Core i7 CPUs, taking high-end clock speed for the range to 3.33GHz.

Yeah, but the Atom architecture sits between P3 & P4 in terms of clock-for-clock performance - thus this chip will be a lot slower than the equivalent Core 2 Solo.

Edit: There isn't an equivalent of this, but use your imagination

I love hearing about laptop/netbook advances, i've always wanted a laptop but the "desktop replacement" performance i'm looking for is usually 7pounds and 1.5HR battery life.

The Atom Line would not have PCIe x16 cause that would undermine intel's own celeron/pentium line. These chips are about as fast as a P4 Clock for Clock so dont expect any performance out of them, even if they managed to achieve core 2 solo speeds with the next gen, they still wont be speedy. And i believe these are in-order instructions compared to the modern out-of-order instruction.
