Default [CA] Acer recalls "Predator" Desktop Computers

Quote:
March 19, 2009
Acer Predator desktop computers are being recalled because of an overheating problem. The insulation on the computer's internal wiring can become bent or stripped, causing the wires to overheat while the product is in use. This poses a burn hazard to consumers.

Acer has received two reports of computers short circuiting, resulting in melted internal components and external casing. Neither incident occurred in the U.S. No injuries have been reported.

Who bought these things? Not my cup of tea and glad it's not, considering the little bit about a burn hazard and how often I'm inside my computer.

Yikes, not good. I've actually sold a few of these at work since they've been released. Hopefully none of the ones from here are at risk.

Hmmm, how can stripped insulation casue overheating? Wouldn't it make it run cooler with less insulation? Sounds more like a fire hazard.

Stripped insulation could cause a short, shorts can cause heat, heat can cause fires and burns.

Wow, what a black mark for Acer, despite what many people say, Acer is actually a good company. They offer a very nice product for a more than reasonable price point, and they keep the big boys prices in check.

It would be nice to remember that before dissing them too much.

lol Acer fail again...
I saw that orange case at a electronic show-off thing, sli with 9800gtx and cheap watercooling, and the case? oh God, it was worse than Raidmax cases (plastic plastic plastic)... and the seller told me ``this computer will last long, and play all your games much better than your current computer!`` then I told him my specs, and he just left lol

Say what you want but Acer is one of the best OEM computer manufacturing companies other than Dell and IBM. They don't pull a Microsoft and deny their customers support(xbox360) they actually face the problem and fix it.

Work for PC World by any chance? I have seen a few in there and I was quite surprised that they were fairly good value for money.
