Default [OCC] AMD's RD890 Motherboard Pictured

RD890 will be AMD's new chipset, which will consist of either the 890FX chipset or the 890GX, as well as the other limited versions. This new chipset will have the new SB850 and an upgraded integrated graphical processing unit and isn't expected to be released until 2H 2009. A website called BouweenPC has some pictures of the new reference motherboard, and it looks like the new chipset heatpipe is much chunkier and has a small fan. This either means that the new chipset runs really hot, or AMD want the chipset to be even cooler than before. Please note the angles of the shots are quite strange.

Hope they finally fix the SATA performance issues. SB600 and SB750 were a big letdown in that regard.

8x0G board would be better for an HTPC, the only difference in the 790GX and 7x0G boards is the clocks for the onboard video.

But...it really doesn't effect HD playback.

Honestly?
They were not a let down.
Not as fast in RAIDs as the ICH10R.
But both were competent Southbridges.

Mostly aimed at overclocking.

Also, the Southbridge 850 will have SATA 6GBs connections. Not SATA 3GBs.

SB750 for me runs raid ok. I wouldn't say that they are let downs. SB650 did have a lot of bugs with raid though. SB750 is a huge improvement over SB650.

I do want, but am going to wait for AM4 for my next upgrade, unless I come into some money hehee.

I like the engineer boards for that very reason. People are too concerned about looks nowadays, I think the coolest looking motherboard I've owned was my old ASUS K6 one.
