A 6000 POINT SPREAD

Granted we did have physx on, but this is still hats off to nvidia for the perfomance (even if it does not always reflect real world results)

It is really hard to find a review site that is not 'financially biased' as so well put earlier...
Cards will perform different /better/worse on different setups PERIOD. You really cant blame hardware manufacturers for sending the equipment to benchmark it on. This is what the tested it on in the labs showing the most promising results, the fruits of their yileld if you may..Good input and words Grimlar but I can definanlty assure you that your results can Totally be flipped around on a different setup..Favoring the GTX295 , or the 4870x2. It all depends on the build.
Nvidia does better in benchmarks in general AND you had Physx turned on? That was totally pointless as far as real world performance (and isn't that what matters?).

I for one am disappointed in the GTX 295 and it's microstuttering issues. Who cares what the FPS counter says if it feels like 20 FPS.

imo multi GPU setups are more value for money than single cards.

case in point: two cheap (sub $100) 8800GT's keep up with and in most cases beat (7FPS in one game IIRC) a GTX 280, which is more than double the price.

and most multi GPU low-mid range card setups are like this.

That is just not true. 60fps is very playable, but more still makes a difference in terms of smoothness, even if your refresh rate is 60Hz. If you have vsync enabled, it won't make a difference though.

So what did we get out of this thread? Reading the various posts that people have on THIS site is more trustworthy then most reviews.

Best example is the new Phenom II, some sources said 4GHz air, some reviews said 3.4-3.5GHz on air. Go to the AMD section and the average is about 3.7GHz on air, with a wide range of setups and submissions. That's why we have threads like that encouraged me to get mine! (summer heat is killing my OC back down to 3GHz to save it from 50s on load.)

There was also a thread with comparisons between the 4890, GTX 270 and 260

60 fps avergae is nice, but 60 fps minimum (and therefore higher average) is better. It's all about the minimum fps.

But you are comparing flagship versus entry level. Put 2x 216's vs the 2x 8800gt, I'd think the former would have more value per cash spent then the latter.

I dont see that at all...

I see a bunch of fanboy with no numbers from both camps to back up their fanboyism...

you cant take your numbers (if you have any) and compare them against some one elses numbers and say this site is impartial....

there is a reason no one uses this site for reference other than the members who go here which is a very small part of the pie...

@ Optical....no neoseekers makes all its money from the advertising of the site through banners from Google and newegg and others...they own several sites not just OCC...just look at the main site neoseeker.com

wrong. the human eye can detect much more than 60FPS, contrary to popular belief.

and as someone said, minimum FPS is the whole deal. if you get 300FPS in one area with barely nothing in it, great. but that doesn't matter if it drops to 20FPS minimum.

<----don't shoot the messenger. I really like nVidia, but look at my sig rig. You can dig up a number of threads I started that go " POS ATI card!!! I'm going back to nVidia" Quite simply, last year I was ready to buy a new card and the 4870 delivered comperable performance to nVidia's offerings at less than 1/2 the price. I went through all the reviews, and what was the most influential? The ones posted on OCN, by guys who shelled out cash from their own pocket.

There are many reputable people on OCN who will give you an honest review, although there are also some fanboys who will be die-hard for their team. I always trust Robilar's reviews.

Exactly. OCN reviews are the best, because they are end user reviews- people who put thier own money into the hardware, instead of being given their stuff for free.
