Default [Combination]RV7xx price cuts/RV8xx release

Quote:
According to our information, a decision on the launch date towards the end of June very plausible, as TSMC, the second generation 40nm manufacturing process based on the RV740 will test and then the success in optimizing the yield rate is a precise decision whether to use the RV870 possible.

Next month AMD will lower prices of not only the entry model Radeon HD 4850 but also the top models Radeon HD 4870 and HD 4890, which implies new and more exciting cards are on the way.

It almost seems as though RV8xx is ready, but TSMC is holding it up with the 40nm issues.

Most likely the case. It has been just shy of a year since the 4850 launch.

sounds good to me this, been wanting to upgrade from what I got, might even get a 4870 1gb, think it's a decent upgrade, but what of dx11? I know Ati cards support 10.1 so..

Think it is possible that ATI is just trying to time their release with Windows 7, and that the availability of the 4770 is partly do to them stock piling cards in time for their release? Probably optimistic thinking, but it is possible. I have been hearing less lately about poor yields from TSMC.

You know...there are some nice toys in DX11, but I really don't see them being implemented in any games for quite some time.

The biggest thing is going to be that "Tesselation" thing. To put it short, it will make things that are far away look a lot better...and I mean very much a lot better. If it actually works, that is. The best part about it is that I don't think programers will even have to do much to implement it. Everything will work the same as it does now other than that things can be rendered far away without putting a large dent in your FPS. However, when you are trying to get a head shot on the guy infront of you; you won't even be looking past his ugly grape. Snipers will probally have some nicer views though. I really don't see it as a huge deal. Just one of those things where you'll go "ooooo...ahhhh...wooooow" the first time you see it and then never really pay attension to it again.

DX11 is supposed to have much better support for multi-threading so SLI and Crossfire should scale better, but I would bet anything that games will need to be coded for this. Though Shader Model 5 is supposed to bring about OOP for the shaders, which should make the shaders easier to program, though if you had people around that are used to the old way it may not be so easier to switch. I don't know...I have never programed any 3D graphics before, but I know I'll take object orientated progaming over the old stuff any day. Infact, I find it hard to believe the shaders aren't OOP right now...I really should research into that.

Keep an eye on the forsale section kamikaze, I plan to be selling my 4850's very soon well below market price. LOL...I won't be waiting around for a DX11 card though

I think what you meant by the Tessellation thing, is that new Tesselator, AMD has some videos showing what it can help do on youtube I think, also compute shading?

Much better detail overall, I read things like more natural environmental graphics like realistic grasses and trees and higher detail models, things like that.
