I'm pretty sure that the other way around is true as well -- when electricity is applied to the piezo-electric crystal, it will vibrate right? And that is part of the principle of how this drive works.

Current HDs use a single head per platter side. They spin the platter while moving the head back and forth. One head to cover 0.5-2 terrabits.
This basically uses a LOT of heads per platter side. Since there are so many heads, they just need to move the platter. One head to cover 1-100 megabits (guessing). The thing they have to making sure is they spread the data across multiple heads.

sounds interesting. QTC (quantum tunelling compound) acts the same as piezo things. Its a non-conductive compound that generates a small electric current when pressure is applied.
