Correct me if im wrong, but im sorta envisioning a miniture inkjet printer, as in the head would go back and forth, and the device would move the track back and forth in the other direction

I like and don't like this idea at the same time AND I can explain why I don't like it. I don't like this because if they have to move the platter back and forth then the middle bits will be accessible by the head way more often then the outside bits. Now if they converted this to a crazy spinning circular platter with multiple non-moving heads this could be more effecient. The problem there would probably be trying to track where each head is reading from at the current moment, but I'm sure there is a way to figure that out (if it even is a problem).

I think multi-head standard HDDs are a better idea. I mean really, why hasn't anyone tried it?

Wouldn't multiple heads mean more chances of failure? (kinda like RAID 0)

Well more moving parts could introduce more chances of failure... But if it were a high-end part they could increase the parts quality and raise the price a bit.

The low power consumption is from the properties these heads (p-whatever crystals) are made out of. Really all they have to do is have the heads in exactly the same areas at the perfect distance from eachother... They would reach all areas of the rectangular disk. |

Well, apparently there is only one moving part - the rectangular media with the data on it -which jiggles around, creating sectors.

No.. if anything this will replace SSD's because those are going to replace HDD's in a couple more years.
