I read about this earlier and it seems pretty cool. Hopefully it will be priced close to what HDDs are at now.

I want to purchase a SSD, but the eventual and inevitable degration has made me reconsider my purchase.

The only way this will be even remotely successful is that if the price is comparable to HDD prices right now. If not, it will die a similar death like 8-track or minidisc.
