What? Why? eSATA is awesome for me. Near instant transfers, though it's only 3 Gb/s versus the 5 Gb/s of USB 3.0, but that'll change with SATA 6 Gb/s.
I like eSATA.

just like usb 2.0 killed 1394a (firewire 400)
Firewire is no were close to dead!!! I use it every day for my video work has much better throughput than usb 2 for my canon xl2. Usb smaller plug and cheap cost made it a killer but its speed though better than usb 1.0 is brutally slow for any kind of big transfers.

Could you fold with it?

I can see the day when your motherboard just has like 30 or 40 usb ports, and all your cards just use those. "OMG did you hear that Nvidias card takes FOUR usb 5.0 ports?"

Why not just make an external pci-e 16x first make it a smaller slot like the 1x but with 16x speeds then add some hot swap and BAM external video cards LOL

But that's PCI. PCI-e 1.x is 125MB/s up/down. PCI-e 2.0 is 250MB/s up and down (at the same time) for a 1x slot.
PCI = 133MB/s shared
PCIe 1.x is 250MB/s full duplex per lane.
PCIe 2.0 is 500MB/s full duplex per lane.

PCIe is not designed for:
1) Long runs
2) Simple hand shaking and cheap controllers
3) Multiple devices
4) Hot swapping

PCIe is not for hotswapping? Why is there a kernel options for Linux to enable PCI-E hotswapping then? Or was that PCI-X?
